Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 December, 2017 - Each season the surf industry launches the latest round of tech boardshorts. In the associated marketing hyperbole companies like Billabong, Quik, Rip Curl, Volcom and Reef will bombard surf consumers with expressions like "dryest ever", "never wet", "totally waterproof", etc. Then, just when you thought you were save, the new wetsuits roll around six months later and shoppers are inundated with another round of marketing terms surrounding the new neoprenes treated to be hydrophobic.
But how do hydrophobic wetsuits and boardshorts work? You can't just take a company's word for it. It's good to be an educated consumer and understand the science behind this stuff. After all, a new pair of hydrophobic boardies can run upwards of $100.
